Taiwan's New 105mm 8×8 Mobile Howitzer System
Taiwan introduced its new 105mm 8×8 mobile howitzer system. The system was successful in hitting moving and stationary targets. In a live-fire demonstration organized by the Republic of China Army (ROCA) in southern Taiwan, the vehicle hit a moving target at a distance of approximately 0.75 miles and a stationary target at a distance of 0.6 miles.
Technical Capacity and Field Balances
The system demonstrated its capability to hit multiple targets by firing its main gun along with the 7,62mm coaxial machine gun. While the vehicle was positioned on a sloping terrain, it proved that it can hit targets at a 90-degree angle, showing the system's capability to hit targets on uneven terrain.

Production and Development
The new 105mm 8×8 mobile howitzer system was developed in accordance with Taiwan's geographical conditions and combat requirements. The system was developed based on the Clouded Leopard 8×8 infantry fighting vehicle. First exhibited at the Taipei Aerospace & Defense Technology Exhibition in 2023, the system passed its first combat readiness test with the ROCA in October 2023 and was approved for mass production in April 2024.
Conclusion and Future Perspective
Taiwan, with the system, will provide mobile and direct firepower against a possible amphibious attack by the PRC. The system provides access to Taiwan's existing ammunition ecosystem and can use ammunition developed according to Taiwan's specific requirements. Taiwan's efforts to modernize its ground forces are seen as an important step against the PRC's increasing activities.
